Problem: "We had to integrate single board computers (SBC's), LCD panels and assemble the machines ourselves, but found that the quantities we needed were too small to justify the cost of in-house manufacturing. This is a high-end, low-volume product. Setting up our own manufacturing line for the sub-assemblies did not make sense.  We could not have achieved any manufacturing cost economies-of-scale because of the low volumes."

Solution: "We hired WIN to handle machine control subassembly, the SBC and LCD integration of the embedded PCs for two of our systems. One system is a small-format (biscuit PC) motherboard complete with memory, CPU and hard floppy disk drive."

"WIN assembled this with an LCD display mounted on a sheet metal subassembly and tested all components as a unit. Then we attached this subassembly to our blood analysis instrument. The second system is a small-format (slot PC) motherboard with a passive backplane, CPU, floppy and hard disk drives. Each of these units was embedded into our medical instruments, incorporated PC boards and software we designed."
